Taghazout sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast just north of Agadir, wedged between the ocean and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Surfers discovered its long, peeling point breaks back in the 1960s and 70s, and the village has since grown into a buzzing hub of surf camps, rooftop cafés and surf schools — while keeping its whitewashed, laid-back charm. Within a short drive you'll find more than 20 breaks for every level.

Morocco's most famous wave and one of the best right-hand point breaks in Africa. A long, fast wall peels off a rocky headland for over a kilometre on the right swell — on giant days you can ride almost into the village. Sandy bottom gives some room for error, but the take-off is critical and crowds are heavy. Works best on medium-to-large NW swell, mid-to-high tide. Advanced.
Right pointOct–MarAdvancedNorth of Anchor, a powerful reef-and-sand point named after the orcas once seen offshore. It's the area's swell magnet — it picks up the biggest waves and handles huge size. The long paddle out thins the crowd. Experienced surfers only.

Beach breakLearnersThe main season is October to April, when North Atlantic swells light up the points with consistent 3–10ft waves. December and January bring the biggest surf. Summer (May–September) is calmer and warmer — ideal for beginners and longboarders. Taghazout caters to every budget. Surf camps are the classic choice — they bundle accommodation, lessons, equipment and often yoga, and they're the easiest way to arrive with nothing and surf every day. There are also guesthouses and hostels in the village (walk to Hash Point and Anchor), apartments for independent travellers, and a handful of high-end beach resorts in nearby Taghazout Bay for those wanting comfort. Staying in the village means you can walk to the points; staying in Tamraght puts you closer to the beginner beach breaks.
Taghazout and Tamraght are packed with surf schools and shops. You can book lessons through your camp or independently for a few hours or a full day. Boards and wetsuits are widely available to rent, so you don't need to travel with gear. Booking ahead is wise in winter, when classes fill up.
